"It Looks a bit like Beirut"

It seems that vandalized property is now synonymous with Beirut according to Darrell Alper, owner of Pearl used car dealership in Reading Road, Wokingham, Berkshire in the UK:

A garage owner is fuming after vandals lobbed bricks from a derelict dairy depot onto his cars, causing £10,000 of damage.

Darrell Alper, owner of Pearl used car dealership in Reading Road, near the Woosehill roundabout, said that about 10 part-exchange cars, including a BMW, were written off after the incident some time on Monday night last week.

Mr Alper said: “It looked a bit like Beirut on the Tuesday. I was shocked to say the least, really. I didn’t look properly until the afternoon because I didn’t want to see the mess. It was just an absolute disaster zone.”

Quite a pity for Darrell but that’s no excuse to drag Beirut into the mud. I will be dispatching his “Looks Like Beirut” certificate shortly.

I apologise for using this cliche, the statement made to the press was the first thing that came to mind. I would like to say that my sister has visited Beirut and was full of praise for the country and intends to return shortly with friends to celebrate getting married.

Please accept my sincere apologies once again
