Remember the Bangkok protests earlier this year when every single news broadcaster was comparing the Thai capital to Beirut? Well, its still happening in an Asia Times Online article titled, Thailand tourism picks up:

“It looked like Beirut here,” one witness recalled, with black smoke rising from arson fires at 35 buildings plus red-shirt barricades, mainly old tires, set ablaze. Seven months on, Bangkok remains under a state of emergency, and the country is severely polarized with schisms between urban and rural, poor and middle class, and Thaksin and anti-Thaksin factions.

Now, I don’t who this witness is but I do have the name of the journalist, Muhammad Cohen, who used this subtitle as part of his article:

Asia Times Online: Beirut East

Asia Times Online: Beirut East

So Muhammad, keep an eye on your mailbox as I’ll be sending you a personalized Looks Like Beirut certificate.
