Fires that look like Beirut are nothing new but how a scene of people lying on the ground on the streets of Winnipeg, Canada after being rescued by firefighters resembles Beirut is completely beyond me:

[District fire chief Bruce] Duncan said the firefighters battling the fatal rooming-house blaze kept going into the building valiantly trying to save people even though all their training said they shouldn’t.

“When you hear people screaming, it sends you in,” he said.

“It was a super-heroic effort by our guys. Normally this would be a defensive fire when it was this involved. We had people lying all over the boulevard getting CPR — it looked like Beirut.”

Bruce Duncan is also an Executive Board Member of the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, which is where I’ll be sending his “Looks Like Beirut” Certificate to.
