That is apparently the effect of the current economic crisis on spending:
The High Street [of London] looks like Beirut without bomb crater. Stores and chains are failing because discretionary spending is an oxymoron across the EU. And PM Cameron was quick to react to President Obama’s Thursday speech saying for the second time in a week austerity is working and there will not be an Obama-like jobs stimulus plan in the UK.
I feel royally insulted; its not just that High Street looks like Beirut, but that it’s Beirut minus the bomb craters, because we have so many of those around. I will be sending Denis Campbell a “Looks like Beirut” certificate for his great work.
