Lebanese soprano, Tania Kassis, was so inspired on her trip to demilitarized zone between the two Koreas that she has decided to sing about it:
“I’ve decided to make a song about South and North Korea in both English and Korean,” Tania Kassis said in an interview in Seoul last week, following her visit to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) which divides the two Koreas.
“I really want to talk to people around the globe about what is really happening here.”
Her trip to Korea was part of a group visit to the peninsula at the invitation of the Korean UNFIL team stationed in South Lebanon.
The 29-old popera singer and 24 other Lebanese delegates, including Miss Lebanon 2010 Rhaf Abdallah and physician Mohamad Zein, arrived in Korea July 29 for an 11-day stay at the invitation of the Dongmyeong unit.
Apparently she sees similarities between the borders of North and South Korea in comparison to the Lebanese-Israeli border. Tania Kassis will be representing Lebanon at the UN’s International Day of Peace festival in October (not sure who selected her).
Tania Kassis has been singing for peace and reconciliation for a couple of years now. She is Lebanon’s best ambassador of peace in the world. Known mainly for her Islamo-Christian Ave Maria, Jerusalem song (came out from her last cd Oriental Colors” – her close work with the Lebanese diaspora and her international engagement makes her one of Lebanon’s most talented and promising young artist.
Her recent South Korean exposure in the media has been a hit.
Tania’s selection to be representing Lebanon at the upcoming UN International Day of Peace is the best gift to the international community.
Appreciate the information on Tania.
