The CEO of the Italian energy giant Eni SpA was in Beirut on Thursday where he met President Michel Suleiman to discuss Lebanon’s energy needs:

Eni SpA Chief Executive Officer Paolo Scaroni met Lebanon’s President Michel Suleiman today in Beirut to discuss “possible areas of cooperation” in the development of the Lebanese natural gas and electricity sector, the Italian company said in an e-mailed statement today.

Not surprising with talk of gas off the Lebanese coast and over a billion dollars electricity development plan, we should expect many more major engineering and construction giants knocking on our doors in order to grab a piece of the knafeh. The Koreans have been eying Lebanon’s electricity sector for a while and they recently entered the mess in 2006 with operation and maintenance contracts over two of the country’s main power plants (the contract ends next year).
