Fireworks are great fun to watch but, according to Rodger Dee, alderman at the Darwin City Council in Australia, when they get too loud, things end up like Beirut:

Alderman Rodger Dee told a meeting on Tuesday he was in favour of crackers. “But this year was the worst I have ever seen – it was like Beirut out there,” Mr Dee said.
Rodger Dee will be receiving a “Looks Like Beirut” certificate though I must acknowledge that fireworks even in Lebanon can get out of hand. Nevertheless, his comparison deserves recognition.
