OK, let’s start with a short explanation on who exactly the MQM are. Cue Wikipedia:

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (English: United National Movement) generally known as MQM, is the third largest political party and the largest liberal political party of Pakistan.

Pretty straightforward, right? Mustapha sent me a link to a blog post with the above mentioned title; I completely agree with Mustapha, I just love the post:

You know what, we should feel somewhat sympathy for the Rehman Malik and Asif Ali Zardari. They know their weakness and ineptness and the wonder through which they have got this opportunity to rule. They know that it is indispensable for them to keep MQM in the rule to save their skin. That is one reason why MQM so blatantly blackmails this regime. Other reason, which MQM has conveyed to all establishment and the government is that if they were touched, they would make Karachi worse than Beirut.

I have no idea where to begin. I had no idea Pakistanis were so disconnected with foreign realities. It’s quite sad – the comparison is pathetic especially to people who probably never stepped foot in Beirut. So to the author, Salman Mugsi, I present the Looks Like Beirut certificate. Feel free to pass on your mailing address and I’ll have it posted to you.
