So UK-based Trent & Dove Housing have been presented with an award for transforming decrepit flats in Uttoxeter from Beirut to well, not-like-Beirut. Actually, I can think of one other award they should receive:

Decrepit flats once described at the ?Beirut of Uttoxeter? have been crowned the rural regeneration initiative of the decade after undergoing a major redevelopment. Trent and Dove Housing has been presented with the prestigious award from REGEN WM for their flagship The Willows project.

The area, originally named Alleyne’s Place and later St John’s Square, consisted of 76 concrete deck access flats which were described by Uttoxeter- born film director Shane Meadows as the Beirut equivalent in the town.

Coincidentally, one month and one week ago, Downtown Beirut was recognized by the International Forum on Urban Development to be “one of the most notable examples of revitalization and reconstruction“. So I guess Uttoxeter is still like Beirut.
