Craig Kapitan, of San Antonio Express News, will be receiving an LLB Certificate for outstanding journalism:
A bar fight that spilled into the parking lot of an East Side pool hall two years ago, resulting in a double slaying, resembled Beirut more than San Antonio, witnesses said Tuesday as Danielle Deroven’s murder trial began.
Actually, the witness described the scene “as a war zone”. Beirut, war zone, what’s the difference? Well Craig the difference is originality and the failure to actually describe the situation. The cliche does nothing but depict poor journalistic skills. That’s the difference.
It’s an old one (2006) but might make a Beirut Award: http://blog.magnumphotos.com/2009/05/detroit_the_troubled_city.html
2nd paragraph: Certain areas look like Berlin after World War II or like Beirut.
