I completely love knefe but going around calling it a Lebanese cheeseburger is a complete turnoff. Take it away Samantha Day of Australia’s Advertiser:

SeaSweet Patisserie on Church St has been serving up Lebanese cheeseburgers, or knefe, alongside other Lebanese pastries and French patisserie fare for the past two years.

According to day manager Mirna Khazen , the cheeseburger is the most popular item on the menu.

Served warm in a sesame-seed bun, the cheeseburger is filled only with knefe cheese – similar to a sweet mozzarella that is crusted with semolina – and drizzled with rosewater sugar syrup.  In Lebanon, knefe is eaten from breakfast to dessert – it makes for an indulgent start to the day or a luscious nightcap.

For crying out loud, calling it a cheeseburger does not do it justice. I honestly don’t believe our Lebanese burger experts Ivy, Diana, Rami and Nasri would have remotely even considered dubbing our beloved knefe a burger!

I can never look at a knefe the same way again. It’s almost as bad as this Lebanese evolution of the meat burger: replace the buns with donuts!

Knefe

According to Advertiser, this is a Lebanese cheeseburger.
