Cary Darling has reviewed the new movie, Kill the Irishman, and has this to say:
“Kill the Irishman” […tells…] the tale of Danny Greene, a tough Irish-American thug who beat the long-standing Italian-American mob at its own bloody game in ’60s and ’70s Cleveland. It’s an intriguing bit of brutal but little-known history – the number of bombings and killings the films says took place in Cleveland at the time make it seem more like Beirut…
Just the same, the amount of times I’ve heard the cliche ‘looks like Beirut’ makes it seem more like your review is unoriginal. Cary, I’ve got a Looks Like Beirut certificate just for you.
Why not “make it seem more like Northern Ireland?”
Probably because that wouldn’t be fair to Northern Irish. I mean sure that Northern Ireland had its issues in the past and things seem to have calmed down though under the surface things might still be brewing but you cannot paint a city or country as the epicenter of all that is bad because it just has a violent past. That would be wrong.
Feel free to replace Northern Ireland with Beirut.
